Since then, the growth of trade fairs dedicated to cannabis in all its applications, whether direct or derived, has been on the rise in Europe.
So much so that for the last six years, Spannabis trade fair has been a highly popular event in Barcelona, and Expocannabis is following its steps in the capital of Spain, Madrid.
The trade fair conditions offered by the Spanish capital are unbeatable due to its population density and its geographical situation, equidistant from almost any point of the Peninsula. The first edition was acclaimed by the public and the exhibitors, and each year it reaches higher success.
Spannabis
Location : Barcelona, Spain Dates : 26-28 Feb 2010Additionally, during the Spannabis, the Cannabis Champions Cup is celebrated, one of the most aromatic awards out there.
Some of the participants and winners from the past years have been: Kanopia for "La Rica", Canamondo for "Jauja", Kiwi Seeds for "South Star", Santa Maria for "Sand Storm", Soma Zone for "Lavender", Madre Naturaleza for "Bud Ball", Gata Local for "Citral" and "N.Y.C. Diesel", Greenhouse for Arjans Ultra Haze.
Visitor numbers reach over 18,000 people in a three day period. DJ's with all the best music and people in costumes parading through the isles are present to add an extra element to the atmosphere.
IC 420 Growers Cup
Location : Amsterdam Dates : 25-27 Nov. 2009The IC420 started out as a initiative of Gypsy Nirvana. The very first one, held in 2003 was actually a small gathering ending up on Self-Hemployed's Daytripper.
In 2004 Gypsy Nirvana came out with the first International Cannagraphic. The first 'official' cup was held in the Fat City.
The IC 420 Growers and Breeders Cup had a peak in 2004 and 2005. The one in 2006 was cancelled, but the ones in 2008 and 2007 gathered the breeders, judges and smokers to this cannabis event.
There are also quite a few interesting events going on in and around the event. Also an exposition of various businesses at the venue during the day gives everybody a chance to mingle, network and shop with others involved within this blooming industry.
HighLife Cannabis Cup
Location : Amsterdam Dates : 25-27 Nov. 2009But no matter where the Highlife Hemp Fair took place, huge masses of tens of thousands of people traveled to this major event, rewarding the hundreds of stand holders from all corners of the hemp industry and from more than ten different countries present at the fair with various interest-arousing products and innovations.
The actual cannabis was in the coffeeshops, but here it was the growers dream.
Entrepreneurs brought the latest watering systems, air systems, and all the other gear needed to have a professional growing environment for your plants.
Dutch seed companies, grow- and coffee shops fought once more for the honor of taking a Highlife Award home with them, an award that among this cannabis-oriented public, does not go un-noticed, and which ensures a strong boost to the reputation of all the companies concerned.
High Times Cannabis Cup
Location : Amsterdam Dates : 22-26 Nov. 2009The High Times Cannabis Cup is a five days festival that gathers people from all over the world, who are eager to decide on the best products presented at the Cup.
So you can be a judge yourself, if you buy a judge pass. You will get to try out for the first time the best strains the breeders have been working on and the latest hashish produced, the newest smoking equipments, accessories and hemp products, and decide which you think should be awarded for its high qualities. Unfortunately, the judge pass will not help you get free cannabis samples, but they will get you to all the organized events: the parties and concerts, the expo, the seminars, and make your opinion matter to the final results.
There are also the celebrity judge passes, which each year is a reason for surprises and more fun.
They get to decide which of the seed banks enrolled in the competition brought the best ganja. Also they participate in talks and discussions held at the event.
The past few years, The Amsterdam Cannabis Cup Expo has been held at the PowerZone Club, but in 2009 it was spread through the participant coffeeshops. In the Powerzone everybody gathered to find out about the surprise strains the event is bringing to the public. All the exposants had the opportunity to brag about their products. There even were organized fashion shows promoting hemp make clothing and accessories.
Greenhouse Seeds, Barney's Farm, Sensi Seeds, Reserva Privada, The Grey Area, Paradise Seeds, DNA Genetics, BC Bud Depot, Apothecary, Amnesia Seeds, THSeeds, Bug Buddha Seeds, De Dampkring, Kiwi Seeds, Soma Seeds all have been winners in this friendly fight for the best cannabis strain, Indica, Sativa or Hashish, and many others have participated along the years.
Since 1997, the Cannabis Cup had a special ceremonial act, called The High Times Counterculture Hall of Fame. This special moment was the peak of the festival, when prominent, counterculture celebrities were inducted into the Hall of Fame, by watching a documentary on them and honoring them.
The 2009 inductee is the founder of the High Times magazine, Thomas King. The first one, in 1997, was Bob Marley. His widow, Rita Marley made a surprise trip to Amsterdam to celebrate her husband at the Cannabis Cup. The past years have brought to celebration names like: Louis Armstrong, , Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin, Jack Herrer, Bob Dylan and many others.
The High Times Cannabis Cup is also a great opportunity for activists or various organizations that fight for the decriminalization of marijuana usage and liberalization of cannabis growing for manufacturing different useful products, around the world, to manifest their beliefs and ask for their rights.
Feira do Canhamo
Location : Porto, Portugal Dates : 19-21 JuneThe objectives of the Feira do Canhamo are to place the portugese market in the European map attracting to Portugal industries, companies and new technologies in the use of natural resources.
They also are eager to stimulate the eco-industry, biological agriculture, and ecological conscience, and also the economic development of this professional sector in their country.
In the long term, the Feira do Canhamo wants to become a commercial platform between Europe, Africa and Brazil.

Location : Bern, Switserland Dates : 16-18 April 2010Visitors come to the annual CannaTrade in large numbers, between 9000 - 12000 per edition, particularly coming from Switzerland, Germany, France and Italy as well as business visitors from all over the world.
Annually CannaTrade presents the CannAward - this award is for the best product in the categories Paraphernalia and Nature as well as for the most beautiful stand at the fair.
The Paraphernalia CannAward went to Solwe for LoxLux - an adjustable lamp for easy heating, Fourtwenty.ch presented the CannAward winning Stand, and the Nature CannAward was take by Good Time Trading for their great Golosa Hemp Water - the special "Sunshine-Effect" of GOLOSA hemp water comes from table water, fruits flavour, bergamot and Swiss essential hemp oil as well as a bit fructose.
Seattle Hempfest

The Hempfest's goal is to contribute to the healthy, informed and energized local and national movement to change America's pot laws.
Seattle Hempfest started out as a humble little gathering of stoners and has grown into one of the most sophisticated cannabis policy reform events in the world. Originally billed in 1991 as the "Washington Hemp Expo", the first Hempfest started in Volunteer Park where it would stay for three years.
No Mercy Weed CUp

Nimbin MardiGrass
Location : Nimbin, Australia Dates : 1-2 May 2010That demonstration attracted bad publicity and Bob Hopkins called for an organized and peaceful Mayday Cannabis Law Reform Rally to protest march up the main street of Nimbin.
He called it MardiGrass hoping it would have the same political impact as the Mardi Grass in Sydney.
Over a thousand people came they say. The Rally made the front page and the local TV news. The size of the rally was so empowering, and there was so moch fun, that the present ones vowed on the sacred skull of the Plantem's ancestor to do it every year until they were no longer classed as criminals.
